By Bradley Heltzel Times West Virginian PLEASANT VALLEY — This past spring was supposed to be the encore for East Fairmont running star Erykah Christopher as both an undeniable force on the state level and an invaluable leader within the Lady Bees. Christopher, then a junior at EFHS, vanquished the field at the state cross country meet in November to win the Class AA-A individual state title, and the upcoming track season was an opportunity to affirm her status. “I really thought going into the spring that she was just going to light it up,” said East Fairmont cross country and track coach Ken Hibbs. “She was so much stronger in October and November last year than she had ever been; that one extra year of maturity — emotionally and physically — she was just ready to tear it up in the spring...and then COVID-19 happened.” Christopher, now a rising senior at East Fairmont, like so many athletes across the country, had her moment stolen a

  PLEASANT VALLEY, W.Va. — After a solid opening season under new head coach Shane Eakle, the Bees at East Fairmont were excited to get back in the weight room and on the practice field to put the pieces for the 2020 season in place. That process was slowed by the pandemic but last week, Eakle welcomed his guys back to Pleasant Valley. “It is like a family,” Eakle said. You haven’t seen your family for three to four months so even though we are only seeing eight to ten guys at a time, it is still good to see each of the guys. The coaches are working with the different groups and I think the kids really like it because they are getting to see each other for the first time in a long time.” Much of the heavy lifting, so to speak, will come next week when Phase II begins.
